Free COVID-19 Response Resources from CAPC

Free COVID-19 Response Resources from CAPC - July 28, 2020

"I hope you are well in these difficult days. Because you’ve indicated an interest in serious illness care, I wanted to let you know about free resources available from the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) to support high-quality care and resilient care teams during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. The California Health Care Foundation is one of several funders proud to support this work.

CAPC’s mobile-friendly COVID-19 Response Resources Hub is the central source for these resources — with information to support organizations facing a COVID-19 surge or planning for serious illness care in the current environment. The hub includes tools, technical assistance, clinical training, and virtual convening opportunities. These resources address communication skills, symptom management, team resilience, telehealth, health equity, and much more.

For a quick glimpse into a sample of these practical tools, CAPC has noted that teams found the following resources most helpful during the COVID-19 surge in New York City:

CAPC and their partners are providing virtual office hours on a variety of topics related to COVID-19; upcoming topics include “Resiliency: Coping During COVID-19,” “Communications Coaching with VitalTalk,” and “Tele-palliative Care and COVID-19: Connection at a Distance.” Participation is free, space is limited, and advance registration is required.

CAPC has organized a series of COVID-19 Response Training Learning Pathways that support training for any clinician caring for patients in the context of COVID-19. This includes continuing education courses and downloadable protocols for crisis symptom management, and communication resources specific to conversations with patients and families about COVID-19. All these courses and resources are publicly available for free during the COVID-19 crisis.

Organizations accelerating their use of telehealth to care for people with serious illness can get help from CAPC’s new toolkit for Telehealth and Palliative Care, which covers all aspects of palliative care telehealth delivery, from selecting the technology platform, to ensuring meaningful encounters, to billing appropriately.

Finally, CAPC has developed a compelling and helpful exploration on “Using Palliative Care to Support Equitable Care in the Midst of COVID-19,” which provides an overview of COVID-19-related health and health care inequities for Black Americans, palliative care’s role in caring for impacted patients and families, and CAPC tools to support these efforts.

Coming soon: By the end of July, CAPC’s website will include a video that explains when, why, and how health care professionals might use each of the COVID-19 toolkit sections.

CAPC regularly announces new tools, resources, and educational sessions. To receive emails directly from CAPC about these resources, go to CAPC's website, scroll to the bottom to where it says “Get the latest in your inbox,” add your email address, and hit “Subscribe.”

Thank you,
