CMS is proposing a 6-month delay in Home Health Conditions of Participation implementation. The new date would be January 13, 2018.
I hear sighs of relief across the nation. But don't put preparation for the new CoPs on the back shelf.
This isn't a done deal. As the document is titled, its a "Proposed Rule" It's not final until its final rule version.
I don't recommend waiting longer to prepare to comply with the new CoPs.
First, CMS receives comments for 60 days, once the document officially publishes April 3, 2017. Then, CMS will consider the comments and publish the final rule with any changes it deems necessary.
The May 31, 2017 comment deadline is precariously close to the current July 13, 2017 CoP implementation date.
Prepare now, keeping policies and procedures that comply with current CoPs in place until the new CoPs are official.
And be sure to comment, once the official version publishes April 3, 2017.
